Reviews
Mumbai Chowk was suggested by a friend and i was in the area so stopped by this place finally with my two kids. I ordered wada pav, pani puri, pav bhaji and chicken frankie. Pani puri was amazing and way better than other places i have eaten it. Definitely will come back to this place and will try out other stuff. Homemade lemon lime soda was so refreshing. Overall all the items i have ordered were good.
Some of the best Indian food I've ever had. The garlic naan and butter chicken are amazing!! Great fish curries with excellent flavor, definitely try it out if you like coastal-themed indian!
When to this place after Ganpati celebration in fremont, It was super crowded, but they handled the crowd well. First time i had curries which had a distinct taste, not like most of the places where all the curries taste the same. The owner was super friendly and their paneer jaipuri and vada pav were awesome. Unfortunately forgot to take pictures.
Edit1: the next time i visited the place i dint like it as much, this time i tried malvani chicken, i felt the taste was no where near to malvani taste. The mutton sukha was ok ok. Though the rabdi kulfi was good.
The owner lady completely spoiled our experience last time we were there. I and hubby wanted to share a combination plate and casually asked to see what size of curry they serve and she rudely looked at us and told us it's only enough for one person and now two and then under pressure we ordered a single curry, balti paneer and two naan and in the end paid $30 just for this!! And on top of that, the curry was so less that we couldn't even finish the naans. We felt cheated. We go to a restaurant to enjoy a variety of dishes, if we just want to fill our tummies, there are plenty of options. And the balti paneer was just average. I also saw her trying to influence another customer who came later and ordered one combination plate, she saw two people so she asked, is it for just one person? But he replied, he's sharing. Well people don't necessarily want to eat heavy meals everyday and it's none of her business to enquire how many people are sharing, it's not a buffet and they give a set quantity. I and my hubby don't eat a lot and I saw the size of their combination plate later which is usually enough for the two of us. Everyone's appetite is different and no one has a right to judge how much one should eat.
Before this incidence we used to order misal pav quite often. and ordered vada pao and pao bhaji once. And that really is their highlight despite the fact that everything has a lot of oil in it. But after this experience, I don't want to go there again.
Based on a recommendation, tried out this hidden spot. We got there around 8 pm on a Sat evening and the place was packed. It's a first come first serve place with no formal waiting system. Tables turn over fairly fast so we didn't have to wait too long. It seems like a family run place and service was fair.
Wifey is a chaat fan so we decided to order a few items from the Khau Gali and Starter list versus trying more North Indian dishes. We got Aloo paratha (for kids), dahi puri, chicken seekh kabob, cheese pav bhaji (they did not use Amul), egg bhurji pav, paneer tikka biryani, and Kashmiri soda ($5, not worth the price imo). The food overall did not disappoint. Pav bhaji had good flavor and so did the tikka biryani. Aloo paratha was pretty good as well. Next time we'll ask for things to be more spicy. Egg bhurji was okay. We'll definitely be back again if we are in the area.
Very poor food quality.
Nothing is made fresh. We had wada pav, kacchi dabeli and ragda pattice.
Wada pav - wada was just deep fried in poor quality oil, it was a frozen stale wada.
Kacchi dabeli - the sabzi inside the dabeli was stale and smelly.
Ragda pattice - no garnishing, frozen patty fried in oil.
Waste of money.
This is my all-time favorite restaurant. The one I measure every other (mostly Indian) restaurant against. I’m not a very adventurous diner so I’m going to tell you about the entree’s I’ve tried. The Chicken Tikka Masala is tender, grilled chicken in a creamy, vaguely tomatoey miracle sauce. It’s medium spicy and I literally will eat it with a spoon like soup. Don’t judge me- I can’t be sauce shamed. The Butter Chicken…I have no words. Another spoonable mouthful of goodness. Also a tomato/cream based sauce with a bit more heat and sliced chicken breast. The Naan is fluffy and airy, the fried bread (don’t know how to spell the actual name) is tasty with chewy and crunchy bits. Fluffy rice, great Samosas and the Chicken Tikka Biryani is a spicy eye watering yum! I get mine without onions because I don’t like them in anything. They have a nice lunch special offering and are closed between lunch and dinner. And Tuesday. The owner’s are a friendly warm couple who greet you by name after your first visit and are happy to share food recommendations. They’ve never run afoul of my timid palate so I’m comfortable promising you won’t be disappointed in anything off the menu.
The food is great, so are the restaurant owners, really cordial and great people.
I love their fish, especially the surmai the pomfret (pictured) is also delicious and will remind you of the food from India.
